An aluminum-poor magnesium alloy called Aluminum Alloy 5005 (UNS A95005) can be toughened through cold work but cannot be heat treated to increase strength.
The corrosion resistance of aluminum alloy 5005 (UNS A95005) is comparable to other non-heat treated aluminum alloys in terms of general corrosion resistance. Additionally, it offers the improved resistance to moderately alkaline environments typical of alloys from the 5000 family. The resistance of 5005 to air corrosion is comparable to that of 3003.
