Aluminum alloy 5052 (UNS A95052) is a bar alloy from the AL-Mg series. The main alloying component of 5052 alloy aluminum bars is magnesium. It is the rust-resistant aluminum that is most frequently utilized. This alloy can be polished and has high strength, particularly in the area of fatigue strength. It also has excellent plasticity and corrosion resistance, cannot be strengthened by heat treatment, good plasticity during semi-cold work hardening, and low plasticity during cold work hardening.
In minor concentrations, manganese, chromium, beryllium, titanium, and other elements can also be found in aluminum-magnesium alloys. A solid solution of MnAl6 is formed by the majority of the manganese in the alloy. In 5052 aluminum plates, chromium plays a similar role to manganese. Although its composition typically does not exceed 0.35%, it enhances the resistance to stress corrosion cracking, increases the strength of the matrix and welds, and decreases the tendency of welding cracks.
